Artist Statement

A Digital Manifesto

With the introduction of the latest digital tools comes an opportunity to innovate. For my practice I’m looking at digital's potential for departing from the unwritten rules of contemporary art, including flatness, deconstruction, minimalism, abstraction, avoidance of beauty, and decorative motifs. While embracing digital tools I’ve become fascinated by digital‘s possibilities for such things as complexity, clarity, and the illusion of spatial depth. The moment of turning on a computer screen presents a blank screen that requires the artist to construct imagery, which is the opposite of contemporary art deconstruction, and an opposite mindset. Thinking of digital art work as ‘constructionism’ has led me to reach back into art history, seeking lost techniques for achieving a quest for beauty.
